slumberChum
A gamified sleep tracker that encourages healthier, screen-free sleep routines for young people.
The Problem
In today's tech-driven world, sleep deprivation is becoming increasingly common; young people are finding it harder and harder to put their phones down at night, leaving them tired and unrested.
The Solution
slumberChum is a gamified sleep-tracking app concept where each user cares for their own virtual pet — their slumberChum — by logging consistent, quality sleep. The app combines emotional attachment to the pet with friendly competition via leaderboards, leveraging both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to drive behavioural change.
The Process
This project was guided by human-centred design principles at every stage. I explored the problem through ethnographic methods, including desktop research, in-person interviews, user personas and journey maps. These findings acted as my North Star, ensuring form and function always aligned with user needs and wants.
