The Impostor Compendium
A 16-page zine that aims to facilitate discussion around impostor syndrome through playful visual storytelling.
The Problem
Impostor syndrome is the psychological experience where individuals doubt their own competence despite evidence of past and current accomplishments.
The Solution
The Impostor Compendium is a 16–page illustrated zine that aims to facilitate discussion around impostor syndrome through a playful, storytelling–based approach. By personifying the five types of impostor archetypes and taking on the form of a fantastical bestiary, this zine lowers the emotional barriers to acknowledging impostor syndrome. It also offers strategies for ‘defeating’ these impostors.
The Process
As this project touches on the senstive topic of mental health, rigorous research and user testing was conducted to ensure respect and accuracy. Additionally, this project was run under the mentorship of two practising designers. Their feedback and guidance was invaluable to the development of the zine's tone and visual direction.
